BACKSTORY: The Anvilhorns are a small Clan of dwarven artisans spread among the communities of Elsir Vale. Anvilhorn Hall, located on the eastern edge of the Wyrmsmoke Mountains and the ancestral home of the Clan, was overrun by goblinoids during the Red Hand invasion of the Vale, 60 years ago. Modoc was a young dwarven apprentice smith at the time of the sack of Anvilhorn Hall, and was wounded gravely during the fighting. Modoc is still haunted by memories of the slaughter of his kin and the sack of their Hall. He hopes to return to the Hall to wrest it from the control of the goblinoids or other creatures that live deep within its mines.

APPEARANCE: Modoc is a stout, broad, typical example of his race. His hair and beard are a bright orange-red, with thick braids. The left side of his face bears a long, jagged, white scar that traces an ugly line from his scalp, through his left eye, to below his chin. A shock of white hair on his head and beard mimics the scar. His left eye is a sightless, milky orb.

MOTIVATIONS: Modoc is motivated by a maniacal lust for revenge, a sense of resentment, and a thirst for redemptive glory. He seeks revenge against the goblinoids and giantkin which destroyed his home and drove his Clan into exile. He harbors resentment towards the humans and halflings of Elsir Vale, whom he believes suffered lightly during the invasion. He also resents the fallen status of his Clan, and their lack of material wealth relative to the humans and halflings of the Vale. He is sensitive and angry about his current social status and loss of honor. Modoc is ambivalent towards other dwarves, always ready to perceive slights to his Clan among his caste and status conscious race. Modoc is fond of Goliaths, whom also hail from his beloved mountains, often traded with his kin and suffered greatly under the Red Hand horde. Strangely, Modoc holds elves in high regard, as the defense of his hold was bolstered by a group of elves who had come to Anvilhorn Hall to trade, and fought to the last along with his Clansmen. Finally, Modoc dreams of one day returning to Anvilhorn Hall and reclaiming it for his scattered Clan.

HATED ENEMIES: Hobgoblins, goblins, orcs, giants, ogres, and dragons.

PROFESSION: Modoc is trained as a Warsmith. As such, he is a gifted dwarven artisan, capable of making weapons and armor of great utility and strength.

IN COMBAT: Headstrong, angry, and vengeful, Modoc fights with a berserker’s rage when in combat with goblinoids. Wielding a Mordenkrad, the heavy two handed hammer favored by dwarven shock troops, he wades into the midst of his enemies with little thought to his own safety.
